Child Killer 'Murdered' In Prison

Detectives are investigating the suspected murder of convicted child killer Colin Hatch at one of the UK's maximum-security prisons.

Police reported that Hatch, 38, from Finchley died at Full Sutton jail in East Yorkshire on Tuesday.

A post-mortem is yet to be carried out

In 1994 Hatch was given a life sentence after being found guilty of killing a seven-year-old boy while on parole for a previous child sex attack.

Humberside Police said a 35-year-old prisoner is in custody arrested on suspicion of murder.

Discussing the incident, a police spokesman said: "We received a call from the prison service at 1924 GMT reporting that there was an incident ongoing at the prison.

"At 2007 GMT we received a further call stating that a 38-year-old man who had been involved in the incident had died."

Body Of Convicted Killer Found
The body of a convicted killer who escaped from an open prison has been found in his car in Derbyshire. Martyn Hughes, 50, from Norfolk, was serving three life sentences for the murder of his two stepchildren and the manslaughter of his wife. He failed to return to Sudbury Open Prison on Sunday after being granted temporary leave.

Police Still Searching For Child Killer
A convicted child killer is still on the run after absconding from HMP Hewell in Worcestershire on Monday. Police are continuing to search for 56-year-old Alan John Giles who fled from an "open" section of the prison in Redditch. Giles was jailed in 1997 for the murder of 16-year-old Kevin Ricketts in 1995.

Prison officers suspended over corruption claims
Fourteen prison officers have been suspended from HMP Pentonville following allegations of corruption. A spokesperson for the Prison Service confirmed that the prison officers had been suspended over allegations which concerned trafficking and "inappropriate relations" with prisoners.

Prisons face overcrowding crisis
Prisons in England and Wales are under "enormous pressure" and are facing a "looming overcrowding crisis", according to a charity report. The Prison Reform Trust reported that prison numbers have crept up again since Christmas rising to over 77,000 again.
