Killer Of Baby Son Sentenced For Murder
A 26-year-old from Co Antrim has been sentenced to 17 years in jail for murdering his baby son nearly three years ago.
Newtownabbey man, Ryan Leslie was unanimously convicted of murdering and causing grievous bodily harm to his 14-week old son Cameron Jay Leslie in September 2008.
Cameron Jay Leslie died in hospital after he suffered severe injuries to several parts of his body.
During the trial, the court heard evidence that Cameron's death was due to his brain swelling up so much that it cut off the oxygen supply to his brain stem.
Deputy State Pathologist for Northern Ireland, Dr Peter Ingram, told the jury that he had uncovered numerous bruises to both of Cameron's arms, his legs, torso, throat and chin.
The doctor also uncovered a total of 14 rib fractures, all of which were "typical of injuries seen in cases of child abuse".
The baby had been staying with his father for two days before being rushed to hospital where he later died.
The judge said that Leslie had shown no insight or remorse for his actions and had shown himself to be a violent individual unable to control his temper.
He described Leslie as a "dishonest and deeply manipulative individual".

Conservative Leader David Cameron's eldest son Ivan has died in hospital, a party spokesman has confirmed. Ivan, who Mr Cameron described as "wonderful", was a regular in-patient at St Mary's hospital in Paddington. The six-year-old, who was born with cerebral palsy and epilepsy, needed round-the-clock care at the family's west London home.

Missing Baby Found 'Safe And Well'
A nine-month-old baby girl who was reported missing from her home in Glouchestershire on Monday has been found safe and well. Maylayah Delaney had been reported missing by her mother shortly before lunch-time on Monday. Police have confirmed that a man from the West Midlands is helping them with their inquiries.
