Over 80,000 On Benefit For Addictions
The government have revealed that over 80,000 people in the UK are claiming incapacity benefit due to addictions.
Claimants main issues relate to alcohol, drugs or obesity.
More than a quarter in the study had not worked in over a decade, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) confirmed.
Even though many taxpayers would not support the issue, campaigners say there are too few treatment options for addicts.
The Prime Minister added that many taxpayers felt recipients of incapacity benefits should be "people who are incapacitated through no fault of their own".
With that in mind, the government want to re-assess claimants by 2014.

Slowing Of UK Jobless Growth
Previous acceleration in the growth of the UK's jobless figure is continuing to ease, according to data released today. Unemployment levels between August and October rose by 21,000, bringing the total figure to 2.49 million. Office for National Statistics (ONS) suggested this is smallest increase since the March-to-May period in 2008.

Work Programme Branded 'Worse Than Doing Nothing'
The governments multi-billion-pound welfare-to-work scheme have been criticised as “extremely poor” by MPs. The Public Accounts Committee has said the Work Programme only managed to get 3.6% of the people on the scheme off benefits and into secure employment in its first 14 months.

Customs Lose Seized Cocaine
'Contraband' that went missing from a secure lock-up after being seized by customs officers has now turned out to be cocaine. Police were called in after 1.5kg (3.3lbs) of the drug went missing from a HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) depot near to Coventry airport.

Campaign to crack down on benefit cheats launched
The government has launched a campaign which aims to crack down on benefit cheats. The 'No Ifs, No Buts' campaign stresses the message that there are no excuses for committing benefit fraud. It is estimated that almost £1 billion was lost last year through benefit fraud, compared to £2 billion in 2001.
