Helicopter Crashes In Flames

There has been a tragic helicopter crash at the weekend. It came down in a field in north Cornwall, killing its pilot at about 3.30pm near Bude. The pilot is believed to be a man in his 40s and from the Bristol area. Police said his next of kin had been informed. Following the crash the electricity supply to about 300 customers was cut off but the helicopter did not hit the power lines. The helicopter caught fire when it crashed and was put out by firefighters from Cornwall Fire Service.

More Troops To Leave

Some 5,000 British soldiers are reported to be facing losing their jobs by 2015, in addition to the 7,000 redundancies already announced. The Daily Telegraph said the move would mean the loss of battalions and regiments. It has had sight of a memo that was sent by the head of the Army, General Sir Peter Wall, to commanding officers.

Teen Dies In Road Crash

A 19-year-old woman who died in a crash on the M6 in Lancashire in the early hours of Sunday has been named. She was Hayley Marie McMinn, of Middleton, Morecambe, and was driving a Ford Ka which left the road between junction 32, the Broughton Interchange, and 33, Galgate. She suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene. Lancashire Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them.

Cigs Recovered

More than 12 million counterfeit cigarettes have been seized by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) from an industrial recycling unit in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear. HMRC officers discovered the illegal haul, which is estimated to be worth around £2.2million in unpaid excise duty and VAT last week during checks on industrial sites and storage facilities across the region.

Mournes Crash Downs Police Helicopter
The UK's Air Accident Investigation Branch has been informed after four police officers were left injured today when a leased helicopter involved in investigating a fatal weekend crash in the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland overturned.

Deepcut investigation criticised in new report
The Surrey Police investigation into the deaths of recruits at the Deepcut army barracks has been criticised by another police force. Devon and Cornwall Police’s report into the deaths for four recruits at the barracks concluded that Surrey Police narrowed the focus of the inquiry by concentrating too much on suicide as the most likely outcome.

Military Helicopter Crashes
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has confirmed that a military helicopter has crashed near an industrial estate in Hampshire. The Puma helicopter is understood to have come down near Andover. An MoD spokesman said that no serious injuries are reported and no buildings or vehicles were involved in the accident. An investigation is under way.

Rescue Operation After Helicopter Crashes Into Sea
Fifteen oil workers rescued from a helicopter that crashed in the North Sea have arrived back in Aberdeen harbour. An investigation is underway after the Super Puma's two-man crew and 16 oil workers were rescued from life rafts and three were flown to hospital - they have since been discharged.

Police Search Nature Reserve For Missing Bristol Teenager
Police investigating the disappearance of 16-year-old Rebecca Watts are searching Troopers Hill nature reserve. The Bristol teenager was reported missing last Thursday when she failed to return home.
