Boy On Belfast Attempted Murder Charges

A 14-year-old boy and a 49-year-old man have been charged with attempted murder in Northern Ireland.

It came on foot of news that a 34-year-old man was shot in the ankle at his home in the Hazel View area of Lagmore, west Belfast on Monday.

The two accused are also facing other charges including possession of an offensive weapon and criminal damage and were expected to appear at Lisburn Magistrates court on Wednesday.

The PSNI said that six guns have been discovered in a number of follow-up searches.

Derry Shooting Probed

Meanwhile, detectives in the border city of Londonderry are appealing for information following a shooting incident in the Ewing Street area of the city.

A PSNI statement said: "At approximately 10pm on the evening of Tuesday 9 August, a 38-year-old male was shot while at home.

"It is believed he was shot three times in the leg and once in the arm.

"This man is receiving treatment in hospital, [but] his injuries are not believed to be life threatening."

The police said that a blue Mercedes car was also damaged by shots during this incident, being hit on its windows.

The statement concluded, that anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact CID in Strand Road Police Station on 0845 600 8000.

"Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111," the statement said.

The Alliance Chief Whip, MLA Stewart Dickson has condemned the shooting and said: "This is an appalling crime carried out by vicious thugs who have no place in our society.

"The people responsible for this shooting are hurting the city and putting it in the news for all the wrong reasons. These people must be apprehended by the police, but they will need help from the public, so I would urge anybody with any information to contact the police.

"I hope the victim of this barbaric shooting will be able to recover from his injuries and he is in my thoughts," he said this morning.

Teenager shot in drive-by shooting
A 16-year-old boy has been injured in a drive-by shooting in Manchester. The incident happened around 2:30am on Friday in the Moss Side area of the city. It is believed that the teenager had been on Hartington Road when a number of shots were fired at him from a passing dark-coloured car.

Man shot dead by police in London
Police officers in London have shot dead a man during an operation in west London, the Metropolitan Police have confirmed. The 52-year-old man, who has not yet been formally identified, was fatally wounded during the incident in Hangar Green in Ealing on Tuesday night.

Policewoman shot dead on daughter's birthday
The policewoman shot dead on Friday in Bradford was gunned down on her four-year-old daughter's birthday. Pc Sharon Beshenivsky, 38, was shot in the chest as she answered a call to a travel agents shop in Bradford. Her colleague PC Teresa Milburn, 37, was wounded in the shoulder.
