Car Manufacturing Increases

Despite the shaky economy and concerns over high fuel prices throughout the UK, car manufacturing continued to rise during July.

New statistics released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have shown a 1.3 per cent increase in production compared to the previous month.

This has contributed to strong figures for the year to date, as activity across UK vehicle factories has grown by 3.7 per cent in the first seven months of the year.

The same can be said of engine production, which has risen by four per cent in 2011, although this did dip by 0.4 per cent in July.

SMMT Chief Executive Paul Everitt believes the strength of exports abroad will help the sector maintain steady growth for the foreseeable future.

"Economic growth remains fragile but thanks to a strong export market, automotive manufacturing continues to outperform the broader economy," he commented.

SMMT representative Jonathan Visscher recently suggested that more British drivers are choosing to buy diesel-powered cars that provide impressive fuel economy.
