Birmingham Airport Development Underway
Morgan Sindall has started work on a new £10 million Air Traffic Control Tower at Birmingham Airport.
Scheduled for completion in 2013, the tower will stand at 33 metres above ground level and will be home to the airport’s air traffic control provider NATS. It will take over from the current control tower at the old Elmdon Airport site, which has been in use since 1939.
The scheme follows the completion of Birmingham Airport's £13 million One Terminal project in February 2011. The project, also carried out by Morgan Sindall, saw the airport’s two terminals merged into one operation, featuring a large centralised passenger security search area, an enlarged meeting and greeting arrivals point and improved shops and restaurants.
Dave Smith, Regional Managing Director at Morgan Sindall, said: "The Air Traffic Control Tower is the fifth major project Morgan Sindall has undertaken for Birmingham Airport – a testament to the expertise we've developed in the aviation sector and our ability to consistently deliver on time and to budget.
"We are working closely with project designers CPMG Architects and Morgan Sindall Professional Services, providing a multi-disciplined approach to this high-tech project. We're delighted to be on board."
Construction work at the tower will be completed by March 2012, and will be followed by an extensive fit out of avionics equipment.

More women die of heart disease than men: WHO report
Contradicting conventional wisdom, the largest-ever worldwide collaborative study of heart disease has found that women are slightly more likely to die from cardiovascular disease (CVD) than men and that heart attacks and strokes kill twice as many women as all cancers combined, the World Health Agency said today. Out of the total 16.

Daniel Morgan Murder: Corruption Inquiry Launched
A new inquiry into the murder of Daniel Morgan has been announced by Theresa May. Mr Morgan was murdered in south-east London in March 1987 but no one has been successfully prosecuted, despite five police investigations. Two years ago, the Metropolitan Police recognised a "repeated failure" to tackle corruption within the investigation.
