More Arrests As London Riots Probe Continues

Although two months have passed since the widespread public disorder in London, police have continued their efforts to bring to justice those responsible with a series of early morning raids.

Today, Friday 7 October, the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) is continuing its major investigation to target those responsible with officers arresting three males in raids across Hackney.

It is one of 22 boroughs that saw disorder in early August and today's arrests took place at three separate addresses across the borough as part of the Met's ongoing efforts - under Operation Withern - to identify, arrest and prosecute those involved.

Police said that a 22-year-old-male was arrested for violent disorder in Hackney on 8 August and a 23-year-old male was arrested for violent disorder in Hackney on 8 August.

Also, a 17-year-old male was arrested for burglary at a convenience store on 8 August.

They have all been taken to East London police stations where they remain in custody.

Across London there have now been more than 2,952 arrests for a variety of offences. To date more than 1,774 have been charged.

Latest figures show that 317 people have been sentenced for their part in the disorder with 96 receiving a custodial sentence.

Forensic and crime scene examiners have been working on more than 1,333 crime scenes. More than 430 DNA submissions and in excess of 330 fingerprint submissions have already been made to labs.

The MPS is working closely with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to ensure that cases are processed quickly.

They estimate that currently we have more than 100,000 hours of CCTV footage to view, although this is likely to increase as we gather further material from CCTV, the public and other sources.

Nearly 700 suspect images and nine clips of moving footage currently feature on our dedicated webpage, as well as more than 60 images of individuals convicted.

"We continue to add to this material on a weekly basis," said an MPS statement today.

"In addition to today's activity we are also releasing ten images of individuals alleged to have been involved in the disorder in Hackney who remain outstanding," continued the statement.

On today's arrests, Detective Chief Superintendent Chris Greany said: "Today's activity is an indication that two months on from the incidents seen across London we remain absolutely committed to identifying and arresting those responsible for the disorder.

"My message to those who were involved in criminality is that you will not get away with it. We have a huge team of dedicated officers working on this investigation and we will find you.

"We are determined to bring everyone who committed these outrageous acts of criminality to justice and more arrests will follow.

"The investigation is a huge challenge and one that we will continue to tackle for some time to come, but I want to reassure London's communities that we are committed to proactively targeting people who were involved and will continue to ensure that justice is done.

"We have charged more than 1,600 people to date and have got to this point with fantastic support from the public. We need your help to identify those who were responsible for the crimes that blighted London's communities in August.

"I urge anyone with any information to come forward," he concluded.
