Man Arrested Over Gleision Colliery Deaths
A 55-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of four miners in Wales in September.
Police have not named the man arrested but the BBC said it understood the man is Gleision mine manager, Malcolm Fyfield. He is in custody at Port Talbot police station.
The man was arrested at an address in the Swansea Valley on Tuesday morning on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter.
Four men, Philip Hill, 44, Charles Breslin, 62, David Powell, 50 and Garry Jenkins, 39 died after becoming trapped in the mine despite the best efforts of rescue workers.
Their families and community leaders were updated with news of the arrest earlier today.
Detective Chief Inspector Dorian Lloyd of the Specialist Crime Team said: "The arrest follows consultation between the South Wales Police, Health and Safety Executive and the Crown Prosecution Service to review the evidence gathered to date.
"We continue to work closely with the bereaved families throughout this process and I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the communities affected by this incident for their continued support and patience.
"We will do everything possible to fully understand how these four men lost their lives."
Examination of the scene is complete and the mine is now closed and under the control of the Coal Authority.

'Fast-track' process announced for miners compensation
A new fast-track compensation process for miners suffering from lung damage has been announced by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Miners who opt for the new process, which is based on a breathing test to assess the effect of coal dust on lung function, will be entitled to up to £12,900 in compensation.

Wanted Man Arrested In London
The man wanted in connection with the murder of a 66-year-old man who intervened during a robbery, has been arrested. Ian John McLoughlin, 55, was arrested in London at around 01:00. He was wanted on suspicion of murder and robbery. Airports and ports had been put on alert as police hinted for McLoughlin.

Boy Injured In Taxi Collison
A 10-year-old is being treated in hospital for serious head injuries after he was in collision with a taxi in Swansea. South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident at 8.45pm last night immediately outside the Mosque in St Helen's Road, Swansea. A white Vauxhall Vectra taxi was involved.
