Dale Farm Protestors 'Picked Off'

Some protesters have remained chained to cars and trucks behind the main gate of the UK's biggest illegal travellers' site as riot police continue to clear the area this morning.

But, Essex Police have now removed two of the six protesters chained to barricades inside one part of the traveller's site.

Dozens of travellers are still at Dale Farm near Basildon, Essex although some have said they are ready to leave.

Police will today start work on demolishing the main gate before bailiffs begin removing homes from 48 unauthorised plots.

Police began to clear the site on Wednesday but were met with a hail of missiles with 23 people arrested after police clashed with protesters and residents as they stormed into the farm to enforce a court order.

The police cordon of riot-equipped officers remains in place at the site as the process continues this morning.
