Winehouse Death Due To 'Misadventure'

The coroner investigating Amy Winehouse's death has attributed her sudden passing to drinking too much alcohol. The verdict of misadventure was given at Wednesday's inquest into the 27-year-old's death, where it was revealed she was more than five times the drink-drive limit. Winehouse was found dead at her home in Camden, north London, on 23 July. St Pancras coroner Suzanne Greenway said the "unintended consequence" of Winehouse drinking so much alcohol was her "sudden and unexpected death". Three empty vodka bottles, two large and one small, were found at her flat, St Pancras Coroners Court heard.

Cameron Denies Coalition Split Over EU Powers

David Cameron has denied claims by Labour that the coalition is split on the issue of bringing back powers from Europe. Opposition leader Ed Miliband accused the Prime Minister of being unable to "speak for the government", as and his noted pro-Europe deputy Nick Clegg were split on the issue. However, Mr Cameron said both agreed about "rebalancing" powers and Labour was the only party backing the status quo. The PM will join other European leaders at a crunch meeting later aimed at stemming the eurozone debt crisis. Ahead of the meeting, the party leaders clashed over Europe and the repercussions of Monday's rebellion by 80 Conservative MPs over a referendum on the UK's membership of the EU.

UK population To Hit 70 Million by 2027

The population of the UK is estimated to reach 70 million by 2027 according to official figures published on Wednesday. The Office for National Statistics said the UK's population was set to rise from 62.3 million in 2010 to 67.2 million by 2020 and 73.2 million by 2035. Some 2.1 million of the increase over the next 10 years could be down to net migration, the report said. The remaining 2.8 million (56%) is a projected natural increase as a result of births outstripping deaths. The news comes as this week marked the growth in the world's population to seven billion.
