Lorry Driver Dies Amid Wintry Conditions
A lorry driver has died after his vehicle left a trunk road amidst wintry conditions. The incident happened at the A160 in North Lincolnshire. A spokeswoman said road conditions in the area were quite poor at the time due to cold weather and hailstones. The driver has not been named but is believed to be from the North West. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
NI Has Highest Post Traumatic Stress Levels
People in NI suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) more than any other place in the world. It has been revealed that Northern Ireland has the world's highest recorded rates of PTSD, ahead of war-hit regions such as Israel and Lebanon, at a yearly cost to the public purse of around £175 million, according to a major report by University of Ulster psychologists and Omagh-based trauma treatment experts. Their survey is part of the World Mental Health Survey Initiative, a series of standardised surveys in more than 30 countries, including nations with a recent history of civil conflict. The series covers a range of health issues and is based on World Health Organisation criteria. The report said: "Northern Ireland has the highest level of 12-month and lifetime PTSD among all comparable studies undertaken across the world including other areas of conflict."
75 Jobs Axed At Welsh Firm
About 75 jobs are to be lost at an engineering firm in the south Wales valleys. In total, 35 staff are to be made redundant at Hawker Siddeley Switchgear in Blackwood and about 40 temporary workers are to go before Christmas. It is understood the jobs cuts are being made due to a downturn in sales.
Woman Shocked By Concrete Block Thrown From Bridge
A woman has described her shock after an incident which saw a concrete block being thrown of a bridge in Essex and shattering her windscreen. Lisa Horne was driving under Fryerning Lane Bridge on the A12 near Ingatestone on 1 December when a concrete block shattered her windscreen. Horne and the passenger in the car were not hurt but a similar incident which happened 40 minutes later saw two people injured. The other block was hurled on to a car from West Hanningfield bridge, near Galleywood. Ms Horne has described the culprits as "not normal".

Forth Bridge Becomes World Heritage Site
Scotland's Forth Bridge has been named the 29th UNESCO World Heritage Site in the UK. A bid to have the bridge recognised was submitted by the UK Government, following a joint project with the Scottish Government, and partnering with Network Rail, Transport Scotland and Historic Scotland.

The Forth Bridge, which connects Edinburgh with Fife, has been nominated by the government for World Heritage status. Unesco will evaluate the bridge over an 18-month period, with a decision expected in 2015. The UK currently has 28 World Heritage sites, five of them in Scotland.

London Helicopter Crash Kills Two
Two people have been killed as a helicopter crashed into a crane in central London. The tower is a 185-metre high cylindrical block overlooking the Thames and the Houses of Parliament. The helicopter also smashed into two cars as it plunged to the ground.

BBC World Service Cuts International Output
BBC World Service has released details of its response to a cut to its Grant-in-Aid funding from the UK's Foreign & Commonwealth Office - with fewer language services as a result. BBC World Service is to carry out a fundamental restructure in order to meet the 16% savings target required by the Government's Spending Review of 20 October last year.
