Party House Closed In Cornwall

Police and Cornwall Council have been granted a closure order on a house in Bodmin after a spate of parties and loud music at the property. Bodmin Magistrates Court granted the order that will see the home at 2 Finn VC Estate closed for a minimum of three months with no entry to the property for the for tenant Ryan Stephens who had been living at the flat. Police said the action was taken after repeated instances of late night parties, loud music and drink related anti-social behaviour at the property owned by Cornwall Council. Complaints began in July this year, and despite repeated warning and offer of help, the Stephen’s behaviour continued to impact on the local community, police said. Local Policing Inspector Ian Drummond-Smith welcomed the judgement. He said: “I hope this sends a strong message that anti-social behaviour is not welcome in Bodmin. “As a local neighbourhood partnership we will work together with the community and take robust action against those who make life a misery for others.”

UK Retailers Feel Pinch After November Drop

Retailers in the UK are fearing a tough Christmas period after retail sales falling in November from the month before. Despite widespread discounting on the High Street retail sales fell 0.7% on the month, according the Office for National Statistics. According to the official figures, consumers had cut back spending on computers, mobile phones, watches and jewellery, but that clothes sales had recovered. The British Retail Consortium said the figures were "miserable". The fall in November follows a surprise rise in sales in October, which analysts said was due to the start of deep discounting by retailers.

New Policing Body To Be Launched

A professional body representing the entire police service will be created, the Home Secretary said on Thursday. Theresa May said the body "will develop policing as a single profession" and "act only in the public interest", adding that she also saw the need for a chiefs' council. The announcement, made in a written statement to MPs, follows this summer's review of policing by Peter Neyroud, the former head of the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA).
