Man Arrested After Girl Mauled By Dog

A man has been arrested after a six-year-old girl had part of her ear bitten off by a dog in London.

The 56-year-sold man attended Chingford police station on Sunday morning and was arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control in a public place.

He is currently in custody at an east London police station.

The injured six-year-old girl had part of one ear bitten off and also sustained wounds to her neck and shoulder. She remains at a hospital in Essex where she was taken for surgery. She is now in a stable condition.

Police said the unprovoked incident occurred at around noon on Saturday January 21 at Pole Hill in Woodberry Way E4, in front of the girl's parents and her younger brother.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service were on the scene soon afterwards - however the dog and the man in charge of it had already left the park.

The dog is described as a bull terrier-type dog, predominantly white with black patches.

There were other people in the park - some of whom have not yet come forward to police.

The dog has also been seized by police.

Anybody with information is asked to call Waltham Forest police on 020 3276 0967; if you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
