DPP To Advise Huhne Of Penalty Point Charges

The Energy Secretary Chris Huhne will be told on Friday morning whether he will face charges over the allegations he asked his wife to accept a penalty for speeding on his behalf.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keir Starmer is announce the decision in a televised statement at 10am. Essex Police have been investigating the allegations against Mr Huhne, dating back to 2003, for eight months.

There is speculation that Mr Huhne could be ejected form the cabinet by David Cameron if the DPP decide to pursue the case.

However, Huhne has revealed that if prosecuted he will declare his innocence and resign his cabinet post to fight the case saying that a battle to clear his name would be too much of a distraction to continue in office.
