Appeal After Man Attacked Outside Hove Pub
An appeal has been launched by police after a local man was treated in hospital for a serious head wound following an assault outside the Albion pub in Church Road, Hove on Sunday 29 January. The 47-year-old man was attacked at around 7pm by another man and was left with a swollen left eye and jaw as well as a 6 inch cut on his head which required 13 staples to close the wound. PC Paul Baker from Brighton and Hove Response Investigation Team said: "We are trying to establish the circumstances that lead up to this horrible attack. "I would particularly like to appeal to people who were standing at a nearby bus stop outside the pub and would have witnessed the assault. Also, any members of the public who were going about their daily business and may seen any suspicious activity. "Please call 101 quoting serial 470 of 30/1 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
Driver Sentenced For Causing Death Of Horse Rider
A 52-year-old man from Kelvedon Hatch has been disqualified from driving for three years after causing the death of a horse rider by driving carelessly. Hugh Boyle was also sentenced to eight months imprisonment, suspended for two years, and ordered to complete 300 hours community service at Basildon Crown Court on Friday, February 2. He had previously pleaded guilty to causing the death of 63-year-old Jane Mitchinson from Brentwood. Mrs Mitchinson and another rider were riding horses along Ashwells Road in Pilgrims Hatch on Sunday, January 16, last year, when Hugh Boyle's Toyota van crashed into the animals. Mrs Mithinson was thrown from her horse and died instantly at the scene. The other rider, a man, was also thrown from his horse but escaped serious injury. Both horses died as a result of the impact. An investigation by Essex Police Serious Collision Investigation unit showed that Mr Boyle did not adjust his driving sufficiently to compensate for the bright sunlight at the time, resulting in him not seeing the horses in the road.
Hertford To appear In Court Over Attempted Murder
A 28-year-old man from Hertford is to appear in court on Monday after being charged with attempted murder of a man found with serious injuries on a playing field in Harlow last month. The 64-year-old man from Sheering was found with serious facial injuries and fractures to his arms and hands on Monday January 30, 2012. He is still recovering in hospital. Bradley Burnip, from Mead Lane in Hertford, was arrested on February 2 and has now been charged with attempted murder. He will remain in police custody prior to his appearance at Harlow Magistrates' Court on Monday, February 6, 2012.

Police Appeal For Information On Mugging Of 92-Year-Old Man
The Metropolitan Police have appealed for information after a 92-year-old man was mugged for just £5. It is understood that a male aged 20 to 30, followed the elderly man into the entrance of a block of flats in Soho, where he knocked him to the ground and stole his wallet.

Roof Ripped From Bus Injures Six
One man has suffered serious head injuries and another five injured when a bus collided with a railway bridge in north London. The double decker had been diverted to the Prince of Wales road due to a major fire in Camden market on Saturday. The diverted route 24 bus was attempting to pass under an arched railway bridge at 9.

30 Year Sentence For BA Terror Plotter
A former British Airways worker has been jailed for 30 years over terrorist plotting. Rajib Karim, 31, from Newcastle, was employed as a software engineer and used his position to access information for a Yemen based al-Qaeda preacher to target BA's flights in the US.

Two Men In Court After Teenager Dies In Collision
A further two men have appeared at Coventry Magistrates Court in connection with a collision where a teenager tragically lost her life. Lucy Commins, 16, was a passenger in a Mercedes CLK that collided with a Volkswagon Golf at the junction of Hinckley Road and Woodway Lane at around 11.25pm on Saturday 22 February. Lucy died at the scene.

Second Horse Rider Killed At Equestrian Event
A 30-year-old horse rider has died after falling from his horse during the Nunney International Horse Trials in Somerset on Saturday. The Canadian rider, Jordan McDonald, who was based in Leicesterchire is the second horse rider to die on the same day. His fellow rider Benjamin Winter was killed during Germany's major four-star event at Luhmuhlen.
