UK Unemployment Jumps 50,000

UK unemployment is up by almost 50,000, reaching 2.67 million in the three months to December, according to official figures.

The Office for National Statistics revealed on Wednesday that the unemployment rate was now at 8.4%, while the number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance last month increased by 6,900 to 1.6 million.

Meanwhile, the highly criticised number of young people out of work was down to 1.038 million in the three months to December, taking the unemployment rate for 16-to 24-year-olds to 22.2%.

The ONS also revealed that total pay including bonuses rose by 2% on a year earlier, unchanged on the three months to November 2011. Regular pay excluding bonuses rose by 2% on a year earlier, up 0.1 on the three months to November 2011.

The number of job vacancies rose to 476,000 in the three months to January.

UK Unemployment Falls By 4,000
Latest figures released from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) fell by 4,000 in the three months to June, bringing the total number of people out of work in the UK to 2.51 million. The number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance also fell by 29,000 to 1.4 million. However, the unemployment rate remains at 7.

Unemployment Levels Reach 12-Year High
Unemployment levels in the UK have risen by 232,000 to 2.26 million in the three months to April - the highest level in more than 12 years. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) also said the number of people claiming jobseeker's allowance increased by 39,300 in May to 1.

Unemployment dips to two-year low in UK
The UK’s unemployment rate is now at a two-year low, according to the latest figures released from the Office of National Statistics (ONS). Data for the three months to June showed that the unemployment stood at 1.46 million, a fall of 0.1% to 5%.
