Military Assault Rifles Seized

Two people have been arrested in connection with possession of two military assault rifles.

The Metropolitan Police Special Projects Team supported by armed officers yesterday seized the weapons which have the capability of firing from a distance of up to 460 meters away.

A 29 year old man and a 23 year old woman were arrested following a search at an address in Ploughman's Close, Upper Edmonton.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Wagstaff of the Central Task Force said: "My Officers are constantly seeking to target the upper echelons of organised crime which are linked to the supply of firearms to gang members within London's Boroughs. This is an excellent example of their expertise to support the efforts of Borough and Trident teams in addressing gang violence

"The Self Loading Rifle (SLR) is an extremely devastating assault rifle and the seizure of two live weapons has meant that these weapons have now been taken off the streets of London."
