Lib Dem Activists Hope To End NHS Reforms

Heath activists within the Liberal Democrats are planning an emergency motion during the party’s spring conference to reject the NHS reforms bill. This comes despite final changes being proposed by party leader Nick Clegg. The activists meet on Monday night and despite the risk of potential conflict for the coalition decided to press ahead with their plans. "Do these changes [by Clegg] make the bill less bad, yes,” said Charlie West, “but do they make the bill one that we should support, the answer is no. It is nowhere near what we could support. Pupils Should Study The Arts Until 16

A government commission report has said recommended pupils should study the arts until the age of 16 amid fears that cultural education is still ‘patchy’. The findings, published on Tuesday, say: "There remains a great deal of patchiness in provision of cultural education across England."

The review calls on the government to underline the importance it places on cultural education, recognising the value of gaining qualifications in these subjects. In response to the report, carried out by Classic FM boss Darren Henley, ministers insisted that learning about the nation's culture and playing a part in the cultural life of a school and community was vital to developing an identity.
