Delivering Quality First Cuts Another 140 BBC Jobs

The next round of cuts at the BBC under the Delivering Quality First initiative will see a further 140 staff lose their jobs.

Radio 4’s current affairs output will be cut, BBC2's Newsnight and the BBC News Channel will also be affected.

BBC News director Helen Boaden, head of newsgathering Fran Unsworth and multimedia newsroom boss Mary Hockaday laid out the plans in emails to staff on Tuesday.

In total, across the BBC News and BBC English regions division it is expected, but not yet confirmed, that by the time DQF is completed there will be about 500 post closures.

Scotch Whiskey Exports Top £4bn

The Scotch whisky industry boosted the value of its exports last year to a record £4.2bn.

Brazil was the fastest growing market, recording an increase over 2010 of 48%, with Singapore and Taiwan close behind on 44% each.

The volume of exports was also up by a healthy 19% showing worldwide demand was strong and growth was not simply driven by producers raising prices.

Sun Set To Continue For Two More Days

The unseasonably good weather is expected to continue for at least two more days.

Records have continued to tumble as chilly nights and foggy mornings turn rapidly into daytime sun that is comfortably beating temperatures on the continent, from Athens to Madrid.

However the Meteorological Office has the familiar summary for the end of next week: "Unsettled conditions are likely to spread south to all areas."
