Woman Dies Near Finish Line Of London Marathon

A 30-year-old woman has become the 10th London Marathon runner to die since the event began in 1981.

Yet to be formally identified, the runner collapsed close to the finish line, and paramedic’s attended to her, but she died at the scene near Birdcage Walk.

A statement on the London Marathon website said: "We would like to emphasise that our immediate concern is for the family of the deceased. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with them at this difficult time."

It added that they would "not be releasing any further details of this tragic incident until next of kin have been notified and formal identification has taken place."

A 22-year-old fitness instructor was the last competitor to die during the marathon in 2007.

Five of the 10 fatalities during the annual race were related to heart diseases.

A 42-year-old man has collapsed and died after completing the London Marathon. According to the organisers, the man received immediate medical attention when he completed Sunday's marathon. He is thought to have collapsed at the finish line. He died a short time later in hospital.

Competitor dies after London Marathon
A 22-year-old man who fell ill after completing the London Marathon has died, race organisers have confirmed. It is understood that the man, who has not been named, died in hospital after successfully completing the 26-mile course. Organisers have offered their "deepest sympathy and condolences" to the man's family and friends.

Man Jailed For Attempted Murder Of Pc
A south London man has been jailed for 25 years for tying to shoot a policeman. Michael Mitchell, 32, of Babington Road, Streatham, was convicted of attempting to murder Pc Shaun Callow, possession of a firearm and possession of drugs with intent to supply.
