Former NOTW Editor Arrested

Former News of the World Editor Andy Coulson has been detained in London this morning on suspicion of committing perjury.

The PM's former communications officer was held during the Tommy Sheridan trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

Coulson told a court in 2010 that he had did not know of any illegal activities by reporters while he was the Editor of the NOTW.

A police spokesperson said: "Officers from Strathclyde Police's Operation Rubicon team detained a 44-year-old man in London this morning under section 14 of the Criminal Procedure Scotland act 1995 on suspicion of committing perjury before the High Court in Glasgow."

Operation Rubicon detectives have been looking at whether certain witnesses lied to the court during Sheridan's trial as part of a "full" investigation into phone hacking in Scotland.

Mr Coulson stood down in January 2011 after police reopened the hacking case.
