Unite And Local MP Joins Forces To Defend Shell UK
Unite, the UK's biggest union, and local Labour MP Andrew Miller have joined forces to secure the future of Shell’s last UK manufacturing site in Stanlow, Cheshire.
A question mark hangs over the future of the UK Lubricants Centre in Stanlow – the country’s only producer of the high grade oils necessary for the defence industry – after Shell announced plans to review the site which would affect over 100 skilled UK jobs. The move is also likely to cause concern among local suppliers putting hundreds more jobs at risk, says Unite.
Bomb Attack On Police Car
A bomb attack in Londonderry left the front of a police jeep badly damaged and could have killed somebody, a senior officer has said.
Police have released an image of the vehicle and described the attack as attempted murder.
Inspector Jon Burrows said: "It is only by sheer good fortune that we do not have a fatality on our hands as this attack occurred in a built-up residential area."
2500 young people to be helped into work
Leading youth charity The Prince’s Trust will receive £750,000 of European Structural Funds (ESF) to help even more young people into the jobs market.
The investment builds on last month’s announcement by the Scottish Government that £25 million of ESF would be focused on projects designed to get young people into work.
The Prince’s Trust will use the funding to extend their core programmes to help disadvantaged 16-25-year-olds build their confidence and increase their motivation to get their lives working again.

British Council Wales To Run New EU Training And Volunteer Scheme
A new European Union training and volunteering scheme for young people at the British Council Wales is to create more than 50 jobs in Cardiff. The UK arm of Erasmus+, will offer opportunities to more than 30,000 young people under the new scheme. The British Council will run the scheme in partnership with Ecorys UK from the private sector.

Govt Urged To Tackle Long-Term Youth Unemployment
The Government has been urged to do more to tackle long-term youth unemployment, after a new report found it is likely to treble between now and the end of 2011. The Centre for Cities reported cities like Sunderland who saw a 9.45% unemployment rate and Barnsley, with 9.13% have been hardest-hit by rising levels of youth employment.

MPs are being called on to do more to help disabled jobseekers into work by the Minister for Disabled People, Justin Tomlinson. The Minister said that members of parliament should take a more active role in matching disabled jobseekers with employers in their areas.

The Association of Police Officers (ACPO) and the Police Federation held a one minute's silence to show their respect for the victims of Wednesday's Paris terrorist attack. Ceremonies took place 10.30am GMT, 24 hours after the attacks happened.
