'Areas Of Interest' Discovered In Nicola Payne Search

Police investigating the disappearance of a Nicola Payne, last seen 21 years ago, said they had discovered "areas of interest" in woodland being searched.

The Coventry mother went missing from the Wood End area in December 1991. She was 18 and had a six-month-old son.

Following new information West Midlands Police began searching parkland off Purcell Road on Tuesday.

Det Ch Insp Matt Markham said: "There are small areas within the wooded section and we'll be making a closer examination to see what they tell us."

The latest search includes the use of specially-trained dogs and ground X-ray and metal detection equipment.

Miss Payne was on her way to her parents' house from the home she shared with her boyfriend Jason Cooke, half a mile away in Winston Avenue, when she went missing.
