Sussex Police Chief Constable Referred To IPCC For Investigation
A Sussex Police Chief Constable has been referred to Independent Police Complaints Commission for investigation over an allegation of misconduct.
Sussex Police Authority said it voluntarily referred the constable, Martin Richards, IPCC in June.
The investigation will focus on an allegation, made anonymously, of bringing undue influence on a criminal case.
The authority would not give further details, claiming disclosure could risk an "ongoing operational matter".
Mr Richards said he would co-operate fully with the inquiry.
"Given the senior position I hold and the trust placed in me by the people of Sussex and my colleagues, it is absolutely right that the Sussex Police Authority has voluntarily referred this matter to the IPCC for independent scrutiny,” Mr Richards said.
"With trust in the police at the forefront of ongoing legitimate public interest nationally, I am mindful of the need to conduct my duties with the utmost integrity and an expectation of scrutiny.
"While the IPCC investigation is ongoing it will be business as usual."
A spokesman for the IPCC said: "Sussex Police Authority referred an anonymous allegation against the Chief Constable to the IPCC and an independent investigation has commenced.
"It is an allegation that Mr Richards may have used undue influence in relation to an operational policing issue."

Two Arrested Over Hastings Pier Blaze
As firefighters continue to battle the blaze on Hastings pier in East Sussex, two men have been arrested on suspicion of arson. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, who spent most of the night trying to control the fire, said around 95% of the Victorian pier has been destroyed. There are no reports of any injuries.

Ex-Bishop and Former Priest Arrested In Abuse Investigation
A former Church of England bishop and a retired priest have been arrested on suspicion of sex abuse. The Right Reverend Peter Ball, a former bishop of Lewes and Gloucester, is being held on suspicion of abusing eight boys and men in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He was arrested at his home near Langport, Somerset.

Cambridgeshire Police Shooting Referred To IPCC
An investigation has been launched into the death of a man involving a firearms officer in St Neots, Cambridgeshire. Police were called at about 19:45 on Wednesday 21 October to reports of concern for people in a property in Duck Lane, St Neots. Officers attended the scene and at just after 8pm a man was shot by a firearms officer.

Over 1,000 Police Names Passed to IPCC In Hillsborough Investigation
1,444 serving and former police officers have been passed to the Independent Police Complaints Commission as part of its investigation into the Hillsborough disaster. Keith Vaz, the Home Affairs Committee chairman, told MPs the "huge number" had been revealed to him in a letter from South Yorkshire Police's chief constable.
