Second Suspected Chemical Leak At Colchester Council Building

A council building has been evacuated for the second time in 10 days following a suspected chemical leak.

Essex fire crews were called back to the county council's Essex House building in The Crescent, Colchester, after around 12 people were taken ill.

Crews are giving first aid to those affected.

The incident comes just 10 days after a similar incident at the building in which three people went to hospital with sickness and sore throats.

The fire service and the county council's facilities team were unable to find a cause for the previous incident and declared the building safe.

East of England Ambulance service is also at the scene.

An ambulance spokesman said: "At present our team of ambulance crews are working closely with the fire service to ascertain what has caused the sudden illness of the members of public at this location."
