University Applications Fall 10%
University applications from UK students for courses starting in the autumn are down 8.9% on last year, according to the latest figures from the admissions service.
This is the year group which will be the first to pay higher tuition fees of up to £9,000 per year.
The biggest drop was in England, where applications are down 10%.
This means that about 50,000 fewer people are applying to university compared with the previous year.
Bosses Committing Most Of Company Fraud
New research by accountants KPMG has found that most fraud is carried out by the bosses of companies involved.
Fraud committed from within organisations by management or employees made up 61% of the value of all cases in the accountancy firm's latest fraud barometer, covering the first six months of 2012.
Finance directors, chief executives and other senior managers were responsible for 55%, by value, of all the cases KPMG analysed. The level of fraud by management has remained stubbornly stable, at £206m.
According to the report, losses from UK fraud dropped sharply to £374m between January and June, from £1.1bn in the same period last year as fewer "super fraud" cases, including large VAT carousel frauds, were finalised.
CoE Delay Women Bishop Vote
The Church of England has decided to delay a final vote on women bishops, allowing more time for a later amendment to be considered.
The General Synod voted by 288 votes to 144 to adjourn the debate, after protests from pro-women campaigners.
They object to an amendment to the draft law allowing parishes who do not accept women bishops to request a male bishop who shares their beliefs.
The new vote is likely to happen at a special Synod session in November.
