Extradited Bank Robbery Suspect Appear In Court

A former security guard who was extradited from the United States has appeared in court in Suffolk charged with stealing £1m.

Eddie Maher, 57, originally from Essex, was flown back to the UK overnight.

He has been charged with the theft of £1,172,500 from a security van in Felixstowe in January 1993.

Mr Maher, who was arrested in Ozark, Missouri, did not enter a plea during the hearing before magistrates in Ipswich and was remanded in custody.

The case was adjourned until 17 July.

50,000 Free Tickets For Olympic Football

Young Scots have a chance to apply for 50,000 free tickets for eight Olympic football matches at Hampden.

The tickets will go to sports clubs, charities and youth projects via the London 2012 Ticketshare scheme, which is funded through hospitality packages.

The three men's games involve Honduras, Morocco, Japan and World Cup holders Spain. The five women's games involve USA, France, Colombia and Korea DPR.

The matches will be played from 25 July to 3 August.

Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced the Ticketshare allocation during a visit to Hampden Stadium.

Flooding Continues To Cause Disruption

Flood disruptions have continued on Tuesday as more rain hits areas already waterlogged by recent downpours.

Residents will see spells of more heavy rain in the next few days, with the ground and watercourses affected by earlier deluges.

The Environment Agency (EA) has seven flood warnings and 36 flood alerts in place in England.

Roads have been closed in Derbyshire and Devon, while outdoor events are expected to be affected by the rain.

The worst-hit areas could see up to 60mm of rain on Tuesday, forecasters have warned.

Strong Wind And Flood Risk Issued
A number of warnings about flood risks and gale force winds has been the issued for a number of parts of the UK. Both the Met Office and the Environment agency have issued the warnings, as over 100mph winds and rain batter its way across the UK.

Heavy Rain And Flooding Cause Chaos At Isle Of Wight Festival
Flooding is causing chaos for revellers trying to get to the Isle of Wight Festival. Heavy rain led to access problems at Seaclose Park, Newport, and traffic gridlock meant people were forced to sleep in their cars overnight. Police escorted some motorists stuck in traffic to Newport Football Club where shelter and refreshments were provided.

Flood Warnings Issued As UK Braced For Heavy Rainfall
As weather forecasts predict a months rainfall in 24 hours, experts are warning of floods in many parts of the UK. The Environment Agency has urged 85 communities in England and Wales - mainly in the east and north-east of England - to be vigilant.

Sewer flood warning as heavy rain is forecast
The Consumer Council for Water (CCWater) has urged water companies to prepare for potential sewer flooding as more heavy rain is forecast across England and Wales. The CCWater said that although sewer flooding is rare and the risk heavily localised, it probably represented the worst service failure than can happen to water and sewerage consumers.

Museum Remains Closed Following Flood
Alyth Museum in Perth & Kinross is to remain closed until further notice, the local authority has announced, after the venue was damaged by flash flooding last Friday, 17 July.
