Tesco's £1 Bike Mistake

Tesco bosses had to do a massive U-turn yesterday after an £85 bike was accidentally advertised at £1 online, the Daily Mail has reported.

The store posted a picture of a men's six-gear Terrain Brecon hybrid bike on its website at the unbelievably discounted price, sparking a flood of orders.

Customers shared news of the amazing 99% discount online on social networks and deal tip websites.

But the supermarket refused to honour the advertised price, calling it an 'IT error'.

It means customers, including those who splashed out on multiple orders hoping to sell at a profit, will have to pay full-price, or £84.99 if they want the bicycle.

Today, a spokesman said: "We apologise sincerely to affected customers for any inconvenience caused. Unfortunately this was an IT error, which has now been corrected."

The item remained listed on Tesco Direct until late yesterday, but the usual 'Add to basket' option was replaced with the message 'there are currently no sellers for this product'.
