Burnt Car Park Body Was A Woman Aged In Her 40s
The badly burnt body found beneath burning rubbish in a Sainsbury’s car park has been identified as a female.
A police dog handler discovered the fire during his routine patrol around 3am on Tuesday morning.
The body was discovered after the fire brigade had extinguished the blaze.
The body was too badly burnt to be able to determine age or gender, but following a post-mortem examination investigators now know it is that of a woman in her 40s.
Police have said it is still too early to say if the incident is suspicious but that inquirers are continuing.
They are currently reviewing CCTV footage of the area for the time leading up to and after the discovery of the fire.
One line of inquiry concerns three people seen filling a jerrycan with fuel at a garage near the fire, but stress that this is just one of many leads they are following.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Power said: "We would like to hear from anyone who was in and around the area of the Sainsbury's car park between the hours of 1.30am and 3am. The car park is quite active late at night, as people drive through to use the cashpoint or walk through as a short-cut.
"In particular, we would like to hear from you if you were driving through the car park or if you were the young couple who were spotted walking through the car park holding hands. You may hold information that would assist us in our inquiries, so I would urge you to speak to us."

Council Approves New Stonehenge Coach Park
Wiltshire Council has granted planning permission for a new 26-space coach park at Stonehenge. Farmland next to an existing coach park will be converted by English Heritage into new parking spaces and pedestrian walkways. It is understood that a condition of the planning approval is that the land can be returned to its original state.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Firefighters launch four-day strike

It is believed that a body found in bushes at a car park at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary lay undiscovered for two days. A member of the public found the man’s body around 14:45 on Sunday in the grounds of the hospital, off Old Dalkeith Road, at 14:45 on Sunday.
