Notting Hill Restaurant Rioters Jailed

16 young men, aged between 15 and 25, have been jailed for a riotous rampage through west London in which they attacked a lone shopkeeper, robbed diners at a Michelin-starred restaurant and smashed their way into a casino during last August's riots.

The group was made up of two rival gangs who had put aside their differences in a plan, orchestrated via text and BBM messages, to run amok in one of the most extreme episodes of the urban disorder, inner London crown court heard on Wednesday.

Most of the men had previous convictions, many of which were for violence.

Three were jailed for nine years, and one was given a seven-year term while others were jailed for six years and six-and-a-half years and three received four-year sentences. Only one rioter was given a non-custodial sentence. All but four had previous convictions, and several had breached detention or curfew orders to take part in the rioting, the court heard.

Detective Chief Inspector David Hutcheson said the police were still looking for more than 20 key figures involved in the rioting.
