Street Cleaner Stabbed For Stopping Robbery

A street cleaner is fighting for his life after he was stabbed while attempting to stop a suspected burglar in west London.

The incident occurred on Rylett Road, Shepherd's Bush, at about 2pm on Wednesday.

The unnamed Hammersmith and Fulham Council worker, who was stabbed in the chest, was taken by air ambulance to St Mary's Hospital, Paddington.

The council's deputy leader Greg Smith said: "Everyone at the council is thinking of our brave colleague at this difficult time.

"We understand that the police investigation is ongoing and we are hopeful that an arrest will be made soon."

Student Killed On Way To Collect GCSE Results
A teenage girl has died after being knocked down while on her way to collect her GCSE results. The 16-year-old girl, who has not been named, was hit by a refuse lorry at 9am near to her school Ysgol Gyfun Treorci in the Rhondda, south Wales. Paramedics treated the student as she lay trapped under the vehicle on Conway Street.

Schoolboys Stabbed In London Street Attack
Two young boys have been stabbed in a London street attack, according to the Metropolitan police. The school boys aged 10 and 12 are recovering after being stabbed in Penrose Street, Walsworth, during what is thought to be an attempted robbery. Both victims were admitted to hospital to have their injuries treated.

Russia Condemned Over Kinnock Arrest
The UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband has once again condemned Russia over what he has described as the 'blatant intimidation' of British Council staff working there. Mr Miliband said Moscow had acted in a "reprehensible" way which was "not worthy of a great country" and ran contrary to the law.

Deputy Leader Of Powys Council Resigns Over Use Of N-word
The deputy leader of Powys council, Myfanwy Alexander, has resigned from her position over her use of the N-word in a council meeting last month. Ms Alexander had used the word in July during a council debate on cross-border health services. She was quoted by the Shropshire Star as saying: "We are treated like n****** over the border.
