£3.2bn schools modernisation package unveiled
The government has announced plans on the £3.2 billion investment for school buildings over the next three years.
Every Local Education Authority (LEA) will receive funding to modernise existing schools, with extra support targeted at projects in Greenwich, Bradford, Bristol and Sheffield.
Up to £830 million of the investment is set to be raised through Private Finance Initiatives for new buildings and refurbishment in 15 LEAS, and direct funding is being allocated to schools and LEAS for 134 building projects.
School Standards Minister David Miliband said that he wants "every pupil to benefit from 21st Century facilities".

Specialist schools improving faster than other schools
Specialist schools are performing better than other schools in England, a report by the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) has reported. The education watchdog found that pupils in specialist schools have performed better at GCSEs since 1998 and the rate of improvement in GCSE results was also faster in these schools.

Pupil Premium Impact Will Take Time - NAO
The National Audit Office (NAO) has said the full impact of allocating money to schools for poorer pupils 'will take time'. The department's report said the Pupil Premium has 'potential' to bring about a more significant improvement in outcomes. However, it added there was still 'more to do' by schools and government.
