UK registers fifth suspected SARS case
A man who recently returned from a trip to Taiwan last month is in hospital isolation for what is suspected to be the UK's fifth case of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
The man, who returned to the UK from Taiwan on March 29, is described as being in a stable condition in Addenbrooke Hospital in Cambridge.
According to the Health Protection Agency, the patient "did not display any symptoms on his flight back to England there is no need for other passengers to be traced".
Other people who have been in close contact with him in the UK are being monitored in case they develop any symptoms - but the agency has stressed that there is "no evidence of this so far".
Three of the other probable cases who were being treated in various London hospitals have all now recovered and have been discharged from hospital. The fourth case who was reported on 5th April is being treated in North Manchester General Hospital and is also in a stable condition.
So far, there is no evidence of any transmission of SARS in the UK from any of these four patients.
By last Friday, the World Health Organisation had recorded 89 deaths thought to be linked to SARS and a total of 2,419 suspected cases in 20 countries across the globe.

Second UK Case Of Coronavirus Confirmed
The second case of a new respiratory illness similar to the Sars virus has been identified in the UK. In 2002 the Sars outbreak killed about 800 people worldwide. The patient is in intensive care in a Manchester hospital. He recently travelled to the Middle East and Pakistan.

UK's first SARS case confirmed
The first case of SARS in the UK has today been confirmed by the Health Protection Agency (HPA). Following lab tests, the patient has been informed of their result, however no further details are available due to confidentiality reasons.
