Cardiff Hit And Run Accused Remanded In Custody

A 31-year old man accused of being responsible for a series of hit-and-runs in Cardiff has appeared at Newport Crown Court via video link.

Karina Menzies, 31, died and 13 adults and children were injured in collisions across west Cardiff on Friday.

The accused, now named as Matthew Tvrdon, of no fixed abode, has been charged with murder, attempted murder and assault.

He was remanded in custody to appear at crown court for a plea hearing on 28 January.

Three adults and three children remain in hospital.

Two adults, who were critically ill, are now said to be improving.

Mother-of-three Ms Menzies died while walking with two of her children in the Ely area of the city where her family lived.

Mr Tvrdon faces a total of 19 charges, including murder, 13 counts of attempted murder, four counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and one charge of dangerous driving.

South Wales Police said that the investigation is continuing, and have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Survey calls for smoking ban in family homes
Nearly three-quarters of people believe that smoking should be banned in households with children, according to research by Developing Patient Partnerships (DPP). The survey of 1275 adults, conducted by ICM Research, found that 72% of people questioned were in favour of a ban, including 65% of smokers.

Man Charged With Attempted Murder
A man has been charged with attempted murder following an incident in Faversham at the weekend. Kent Police confirmed Lincoln Payne, of no fixed abode, had been charged with robbery, theft and two counts of attempted murder following an incident in Fostall Avenue on Saturday, 30 May.

Surrey Murder Suspect Arrested
Police have arrested 38-year-old Viktoras Bruzas on suspicion of murdering a couple in Surrey. The bodies of Patrick and Gillian Kettyle were found at their home in Fetcham in the early hours of Thursday morning. Police had issued an appeal for help in tracing Mr Bruzas in connection with the murders, and had urged the public not to approach him.

Double Murder Investigation Underway After Bodies Found In Garden
The discovery of human remains at a house in Nottinghamshire has become a double murder investigation, police have said. Police were speaking on Monday about the discovery on October 10 of the remains of two bodies in the garden of a house in Blenheim Close, Forest Town, Nottinghamshire. Police say they were led to the property by a tip.

Double Murder Suspect Arrested
Following the arrest on Sunday morning of double murder suspect James Allen police have appealed for people to check on any friends and relatives who could have come into contact him. Detectives made the appeal after 36-year-old Allen was arrested early on Sunday after being spotted by an off-duty officer on his way to work in Leeds.
