Pensioner Stabs Nephew To Death

A pensioner has pleaded guilty to stabbing his nephew to death.

84-year-old Ezekiel McCarthy has claimed diminished responsibility and manslaughter over the death of Desbert Welsh, 50, in Kilburn in November 2011.

The Old Bailey heard that the accused was acting under an episode of delirium and early dementia when he killed his nephew.

Mr McCarthy said he thought his nephew was an intruder and stabbed him.

He has been released on bail.

Motorcyclist Admits 144mph Speeding

A man has admitted speeding after riding his motorcycle at 144mph on an A-class road in North Yorkshire.

Gary Dobson, 40 of West Yorkshire, was riding his 1,000cc bike when officers stopped him on the A63 road in South Milford.

He did not attend Selby Magistrates' Court on Thursday, instead pleading guilty by letter.

He is due to be sentenced on 8 November.

YouTube Woman Charged Over Racism

A woman has been charged with racially abusing passengers on a train in south-east London after a video was posted on YouTube.

Jacqueline Williams, 47, of Slade Green, Bexleyheath, south-east London, is accused of the racially aggravated public order offence, believed to have happened at 15:20 on Tuesday.

British Transport Police arrested Ms Williams following an appeal.

Perthsire River Body Identified

A body discovered in a Perthshire river has been identitfied by Tayside Police as being that of 52-year-old John MacGillivary.

The body was found in the River Errochty near to Old Struan in Pitlochry at about 14:20 yesterday afternoon.

Officers are not treating the death as suspicious, but enquiries are ongoing.

Ben Igbinedion, 43, of Darent House, Brangbourne Road, Bromley, assaulted his nephew Daniel Evbuowman in the early hours of 2 March after Daniel had wet the bed they were sharing.

UK Troops Get Boost To Personal Protection
British troops fighting in the frontline are to receive new body armour and helmets this autumn, it has been announced. Over 10,000 sets of the enhanced Mark 7 helmet and the Osprey Assault body armour have been ordered from companies across the UK, under initial contracts worth around £16 million.

Body Found In River Liffey
The body of a man has been pulled from the River Liffey in Dublin. Emergency services were called to the scene around 7:15am on Friday and the body was recovered from the river. The body has been taken to Dublin City Morgue for a post-mortem.
