Boys Charged With Theft Over Officer's Death
Two 17-year-old boys have been charged with theft following an incident in which a police officer died.
The Metropolitan Police has revealed Det Con Adele Cashman died while chasing the suspects, who had stolen a mobile phone from a woman in Haverstock Hill in north London.
The officer collapsed in Belsize Park Gardens and died on Monday evening.
The suspects are due to appear at Highbury Corner Youth Court on 14 November.
The 30-year-old officer had joined the Met in 2006.
She was praised by the Met Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe and Mayor Boris Johnson.
Man In Court Over Paisley Stabbing
A 30-year-old man has appeared in court over the fatal stabbing of a man in Paisley.
Javaid Ali, 48, died in hospital on 29 June after being stabbed in his Renfrewshire shop on 15 June.
Lee Anderson from Foxbar, Paisley, appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court but made no plea or declaration.
Mr Ali’s death led to an investigation involving over 60 officers.
A £50,000 reward was offered by Crimestoppers and the Association of Convenience Stores and Scottish Grocers Federation.
Man Sentenced Over April Jones Facebook Post
A man who posted offensive comments about the missing five-year-old girl April Jones on Facebook has been given a six-week suspended sentence.
Sam Busby, 18, of Macintyre Road, Worcester, admitted the charges.
Worcester Magistrates' Court sentenced him to 200 hours of unpaid work and also implemented a curfew on him.
The court heard he deleted his Facebook page shortly after posting the comments in October.
South Yorkshire Coal Pit To Close
A deep coal pit in South Yorkshire is to close.
Hargreaves Services has announced its plans to shut down Maltby Colliery, which has been in operation for over 100 years.
The company said it was no longer viable on health and safety, geological and financial grounds.
About 540 staff have been issued with redundancy notices.
A final decision will be made after a consultation with staff and their union.

Man In Serious Condition After Takeaway Brawl
A man is being treated for "life-threatening injuries" after a brawl at a takeaway restaurant spilled out onto the street. Police said that a 38-year-old man got "caught up" in the fight at a takeaway in Wakefield. He is understood to have been punched in the face and hit his head on the road outside the restaurant.
