Man Arrested After Trying To Access Bank Account Of Alps Murder Victim

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to access the bank accounts of a Surrey father murdered in the French Alps.

50-year-old Saad al-Hilli, was shot dead along with his wife, mother-in-law and a cyclist near Annecy on 5 September.

Following claims that someone had tried to access Mr al-Hilli olice have confirmed that a man was arrested in Salford on 25 September.

Surrey Police confirmed it had asked Greater Manchester Police to arrest a man at an address in Alban Street, Salford.

Abiodun David John, 32, was bailed over suspected fraud offences until Tuesday.

A police spokesman said: "A 32-year-old man from the Greater Manchester area was arrested on 25 September in connection with an ongoing fraud investigation being carried out by Surrey Police.

"He was released on bail until 13 November pending further inquiries."

Police Dig Up Pub Patio In Search For Missing Landlady
Police investigating the disappearance of a landlady in Cambridgeshire in 1997 are digging up the patio of her former pub. Deborah Steel, 37, was landlady of the Royal Standard in Ely, Cambridgeshire, when she disappeared on 28 December 1997. Police have said that Ms Steel's disappearance is now being treated as a murder investigation.

Seven Arrested On Suspicion Of Terrorist Fundraising
Seven people have been arrested on suspicion of terrorist financing offences, according to the Metropolitan Police. They were arrested at four separate addresses in London, Cardiff and Coventry at approximately 6am on suspicion of being concerned in the funding of a terrorist organisation, and laundering the proceeds of crime for that purpose.

Man Arrested In Mersey Murder Probe
Police in Merseyside have launched a murder investigation after the discovery of the body of an elderly woman in Stoneycroft yesterday. Emergency services were called at arround 10.40pm on Tuesday to a report of a fire at a property on Gorsewood Road, Belle Vale.
