Welsh Govt Considers Buying Cardiff Airport
The First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones, has announced that the Welsh Government has entered into an exclusive ‘due diligence’ agreement with TBI, the owners of Cardiff Airport.
Subject to the satisfactory completion of financial, legal and value for money considerations, the Welsh Government may then proceed towards a purchase of the airport.
The First Minister said: "Over the past 12 months, I have repeatedly emphasised the importance to Wales of a dynamic international gateway airport in Cardiff.
"During the course of the year we have developed a very constructive and positive relationship with TBI. Together we have been discussing how best to develop the airport to position it for the challenges ahead.
"I can today announce that the Welsh Government has agreed with TBI to progress towards the purchase of Cardiff Airport. Such an arrangement would enable us to develop a more coherent approach to our national infrastructure planning, and integrate the airport into our wider economic development strategy."

Kirsty Williams has been named as the Welsh Liberal Democrats' new leader, making her the first female party leader in the country's Assembly Government. The Brecon and Radnorshire AM will replace Mike German after beating Cardiff Central AM Jenny Randerson, taking 60% of the vote.

Stranded Concorde cleared to leave Cardiff Airport
Following emergency repair work, a British Airways Concorde jet that was forced to land at Cardiff International Airport yesterday has been cleared for flight today. Engine problems, which developed after the supersonic jet left New York’s JFK airport yesterday afternoon, saw the aircraft diverted to Cardiff as a “precaution”.

Manchester Airport Announces £1bn Expansion
A £1 billion ten year plan to redevelop Manchester Airport has been announced. Plans include to expand Terminal Two along with improvements to Terminal Three. It is understood a new security hall, increased self-service check-in facilities and additional stands for aircraft will be developed along with new shops and restaurants.
