Which? Call For Clear Supermarket Pricing

Consumer watchdog Which? has called for supermarkets to scrap "misleading price promotions".

While they welcomed the supermarkets' Christmas profits results announcements they called for consistent unit pricing.

Which? executive director Richard Lloyd said: "While this Christmas boost to supermarkets sales is good for business, it’s important to remember that many households are feeling the pinch, with 41 per cent of people planning to cut back on food and groceries in the coming months."

"Rising food prices remain one of consumers top financial concerns so we want retailers to make a firm commitment to treating their customers fairly by scrapping misleading price promotions and introducing clear, so busy shoppers can easily spot the real bargains."

UK annual house price inflation in June 2007 was 12.1%, up from 10.8% in May 2007. Annual house price inflation in London was 17.5% in June, up from 14.3% in May. The UK annual house price inflation rate for the 3 months to June was 11.3% and 15.1% in London. The UK house price inflation rate rose from 10.8% in May 2007 to 12.1% in June 2007.

Fall in house prices reported
House prices fell by 0.2% in August, according to the latest figures from the Nationwide. The building society said that the rate of annual house price growth had fallen to 2.3%; it’s lowest level in nine years.

Sainsbury’s announce sales boost
Supermarket chain Sainsbury’s has announced an increase in sales in its quarterly figures. The firm, which is the third biggest supermarket chain in the UK behind Tesco and Asda, announced that sales had risen by 2.8% during the past 16 weeks, excluding petrol sales.
