Labour Call For Construction Industry 'Blacklist' Inquiry
Calls have been made for a full inquiry into claims of the blacklisting of workers on major public projects such as Crossrail and the Olympics.
A Commons debate will be held on the issue following the disclosure of a database of 3,000 names used to vet workers in the construction sector for more than 15 years.
A raid by the Information Commissioner’s Office exposed the existence of the list in 2009.
The list included details ranging from employment history to trade union activity and other personal information. Campaigners claimed the list blighted lives by denying people employment.

Expansion of 'safe countries' reduces asylum appeal rights
Asylum applicants from seven more countries will have no right of appeal in the UK if their claims are refused and certified as 'clearly unfounded', the Home Office announced today. As part of the department's drive to cut abuse of the asylum system, the seven countries are being added to the list of so-called 'safe countries'.

Police Appeal For Witnesses To 'Horrific Attack' In Glasgow
An investigation into a "horrific attack" in Glasgow last week has been upgraded to a murder inquiry following the death of Stephen McGinlay. Mr McGinlay (26) was attacked by three men on St George's Road in Glasgow at about 17:50 on Thursday 02 October. He died in Glasgow Royal Infirmary on Sunday.

David Cameron has strongly defended Jeremy Hunt's handling of Rupert Murdoch's bid for BSkyB. This follows the discovery of new evidence showing that Hunt was privately pushing for the takeover to be allowed before he was appointed to oversee the process.

Public Inquiry Into Stafford Hospital Opens
A public inquiry into failings at Stafford Hospital has opened today. The start of the inquiry, at the offices of Stafford Borough Council, was reportedly delayed because one of the relatives objected because family members and the media were in a different room to that of the inquiry Chairman Robert Francis QC and his panel.
