£913m Cycling Plan Revealed For London

London cyclists have cause for celebration, as mayor Boris Johnson has revealed a £913m, 10-year plan to encouraging cycling in the City.

Mr Johnson said he wanted to 'de-Lycrafy' cycling through the measures, which will see the construction of an unbroken network of cycle routes, including segregated lanes.

Andrew Gilligan, Mr Johnson's appointed cycling commissioner, aid the aim was to broaden the demographic of cyclists in the capital.

He said it would tackle the dangerous aspects of cycling, such as junctions and HGVs.

A new set of superhighways will form an improved network, with a "superhub" at Waterloo in south London.

The mayor has also launched a project to affect change on cycling habits in suburban London.

In six-lane stretches of the busy Westway road, one lane of vehicle traffic will be removed for the new 15-mile "cycle Crossrail" from west London to Barking in the east.
