Swansea Measles Outbreak At Over 600 Cases
A measles outbreak in Swansea has reached 620 cases, as health officials warn there is no sign of the epidemic coming to an end.
Latest figures show around 15 to 20 new cases being reported every day, and an increase of 32 cases last Friday alone.
Public Health Wales have said that while there has been a “excellent response” to drop-in vaccination clinics, some 6,000 children have still not received the jab.
Dr Marion Lyons, director of health protection for Public Health Wales said: "We cannot be confident that the outbreak will not continue to grow with so many children still at risk from this very contagious and potentially fatal disease."

The ongoing measles outbreak in Swansea has now increased to 808 cases. 43 more cases of the disease have been reported since Tuesday, Public Health Wales (PHW) has said. An MMR vaccination campaign was launched in schools in parts of mid and south Wales, but local health officials have said the campaign had got off to a "disappointing" start.

Government launches consultation on smoking proposals
The government is to begin consultation on proposals to ban smoking in most public places in England. The government hopes that the consultation will lead to a Bill being introduced in the autumn. The ‘Choosing Health’ Public Health White Paper published last November, unveiled proposals to ban smoking in all enclosed public spaces and workplaces.

Salmonella Outbreak In England And Wales Has Links To Cooked Meat
Investigations show that an outbreak of salmonella seen in England and Wales has links to the consumption of cooked ham bought from small independent butchers' shops. The results of tests carried out by environmental health officers on the product did not show the presence of salmonella although it did reveal other hygiene issues.

As health officials warn that the outbreak could continue for weeks, the number of measles cases in Swansea has now reached 765. The total has increased by another 72 cases since last Thursday, with 77 people being hospitalised since the start of the outbreak in November.
