Terror bombers' assets frozen
The government has frozen the assets of a UK citizen who carried out a suicide bomb in Tel Aviv last week. The assets of the man thought to be his accomplice have also been frozen.
The Chancellor Gordon Brown today instructed the Bank of England to ensure that all UK financial institutions take immediate action to freeze accounts belonging to Asif Mohammed Hanif and Omar Khan Sharif.
Three people were killed and 60 injured in the suicide attack on a bar in the waterfront area of Tel Aviv last Wednesday. The Israeli government has identified the bomber as Asif Muhammad Hanif.
The Israelis have also identified a second UK citizen, Omar Khan Sharif, as a second member of the bomb team who fled the scene after his device failed to explode.
The bomber struggled with bystanders before dropping his malfunctioning explosive device and fleeing the scene.
Security forces believe that the pair entered Israel from the Gaza Strip a few hours prior to the attack.
Hamas and the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades of the Tanzim-Fatah have declared joint responsibility for the attack.
The Chancellor said: "We must remain constantly vigilant in all areas in bearing down on terrorism and the sources that finance it. We have taken immediate action today to ensure that no UK funds belonging to those suspected of being responsible for this atrocity can be used to support terrorism."

Disadvantaged Families Get Healthy Boost
Low-income families now have the choice to buy frozen fruit and vegetables as part of the Healthy Start scheme, Health Secretary Andrew Lansley announced today. The scheme supports over half a million pregnant women and low-income families by giving them vouchers that until now could only be spent on fresh fruit, vegetables and milk.

'Canoe' Couple Assets Frozen
The assets of John and Anne Darwin have been frozen in the first stage of the asset recovery operation. The 'back-from-the-dead' canoeist and his wife were each sentenced to six years for fraud. There is now a worldwide freeze on their assets and the process to reclaim £250,000 has begun through the Proceeds of Crime Act.

UK Interest Rates To Remain At 0.5%
The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee has announced it will kept interest rates on hold at 0.5%, for the second month in a row. The news came as the MPC decided to go ahead with pumping £50 billion of new money as part of its quantitative easing on the economy.
