Two Arrested In First Recorded Subculture Hate Crime

A week after attacks on subcultures began to be recorded as the crimes, two people have been arrested in connection with an assault on an “emo” teenager in Manchester.

A 14-year-old boy and a 44-year-old man from Manchester have been arrested on suspicion of assault after a 16-year-old boy describing himself as an emo was assaulted in Ashton town centre.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) is the first force in the UK to register such offences.

The man and boy have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
