ONS Figures Show UK Unemployment Now At 2.56m

New figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that unemployment reached 2.56 million in February, rising some 70,000 since December.

The overall unemployment rate for the quarter was 7.9%.

The figures also show that the number of Jobseeker’s Allowance claimants fell to 1.53 million, dropping by 7,000 last month.

The average earnings rose by 0.8% in the year to February, the lowest growth rate since the end of 2009, according to the ONS.

Other statistics show that the number of people in work fell by 2,000 in the latest quarter to February, to just under 30 million, the first time the figure has dipped since autumn 2011.

900,000 people have been out of work for more than a year, an 8,000 increase on the three months to November.

And the number of unemployed 16 to 24-year-olds rose by 20,000 to 979,000.

Despite the increase in unemployment, the total is 71,000 lower than a year ago. There has been a 62,000 fall in the number of people in part-time jobs, to just over eight million, with a 60,000 increase in full-time employment, to 21.6 million.

Unemployment Rises To 2.52 Million
New figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that UK unemployment has risen to 2.52 million, with the unemployment rate now at 7.8%. Other figures show that in April the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance fell by 7,300. Bringing the total number of claimants to 1.52 million.

Unemployment Rises In The Three Months To January
New figures have shown that unemployment rose by 7,000 between November and January; bringing the total to 2.52 million. The Office for National Statistics figures also show that the number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) in February fell by 1,500 to 1.54 million, the lowest level since June 2011.

ONS Figures Show Further Fall In UK Unemployment
New figures from the Office for National Statistics have shown that the UK's unemployment rate has fallen to 2.32 million, a decrease of 167,000 in the three months to November. The unemployment rate currently stands at 7.1%. The number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance also dropped to 1.

UK Unemployment Drops In Three Months To February
Unemployment in the UK has fallen by 76,000 in the three months to February, down 1.3% on the same period in 2014, new figures from the Office for National Statistics(ONS) have revealed. UK unemployment now stands at 1.84 million, or 5.6%, which the ONS said is in line with forecasts.

Highest Number Of People Working Since 1971
Official government figures shows the highest number of people in work since 1971, after a 63.000 drop in unemployment in the last quarter to 2.33 million.
