Research Shows Fall In Violent Crime
In the past decade murder and violent crime have fallen faster in the UK than many other countries in Western Europe, researchers say.
Homicides per 100,000 people in the UK fell from 1.99 in 2003, to one in 2012, the UK Peace Index, from the Institute for Economics and Peace, found.
The index found Broadland, Norfolk, to be the most peaceful local council area but Lewisham, London, to be the least.
The research by the international non-profit research organisation comes as a separate study by Cardiff University suggests the number of people treated in hospital in England and Wales after violent incidents fell by 14% in 2012.
Some 267,291 people required care - 40,706 fewer than in 2011 - according to a sample of 54 hospital units, its report said.

Inflation At 5% But Expected To Drop 'Sharply'
This month's official inflation figures are still more than double the 'target rate' of 2%, although it is expected to drop "sharply", according to the Bank of England. The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) in the UK fell slightly to 5% during October, down from a rate of 5.2% the month before.

Third annual fall recorded in migration to UK
The number of people migrating to the UK has fallen for the third year running, according to statistics released today. New international migration estimates published today by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) found that overall 151,000 more people migrated to the UK than leaving it in 2003.

Ecstasy and anti-depressants could halt cancer growth
Scientists have discovered possible cancer-busting properties in ecstasy and anti-depressant drugs. Research at the University of Birmingham, backed by the Leukaemia Research Fund, discovered that over half of lymphoma (cancers of white blood cells) samples studied responded in test tubes to the growth-halting properties of psychotropic drugs.
