Glasgow Fast-Food Attacker Jailed

A man who tried to kill a shop owner in Glasgow by setting his takeaway restaurant on fire has been sentenced to nine years in prison.

44-year-old Archibald McKay, from Possil, attempted to murder 34-year-old Rashid Ali at the Spicy Bite in Saracen Street on 27 August 2012.

Mr McKay had previously been jailed for threatening to set the shop on fire.

He was on licence at the time of the attack.

Reward Offered Over Stevenage Shooting

A £5,000 reward is being offered after a man was shot dead in Stevenage.

21-year-old Thomas Ward, who was a father to his five-day-old daughter, was murdered on Dyes Lane at about 23:25 on Tuesday April 23.

Mr Ward was lying in bed with his wife Theresa when three men with their faces covered are believed to have attacked his caravan.

Mr Ward came out of the caravan and was shot in the chest. He ran away and was later found unconscious by his family.

The men are believed to have escaped in a white Audi A3.

The reward will be given to anyone who provides the independent charity Crimestoppers with information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person or persons linked to the incident.

Appeal Over Edinburgh Murder

Detectives in Edinburgh have launched an appeal about a vehicle involved in the murder of a 25-year-old man in the city.

They are keen to hear from people in the Gracemount area of the city who may have seen a VW Sharan late on Saturday night or in the very early hours of Sunday.

Mohammed Abdi was shot and was found fatally injured lying close to the crashed blue people carrier just after 01:00 on Sunday morning, 26 May.

He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he died soon after.

Suspected Arson At Leeds Factory

Police are appealing for witnesses after a suspected arson attack at Formation Plastics, Rossett Business Park in the Bramley area of Leeds.

The incident happened at 21:15 on Sunday 26 May.

It is thought the fire was caused when cages containing plastic were set alight and the fire damaged the building.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured

Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

More than 1,000 firefighters across Merseyside have begun a four-day strike in protest over planned job cuts. Another four-day stoppage is scheduled to begin two hours after the first one ends.

Julie Ward inquest opens in Ipswich
An inquest into the death of Julie Ward, the British wildlife photographer is to begin, nearly 16 years after her body was found in a Kenyan reserve. Miss Ward, 28, from Bury St. Edmonds, Suffolk, disappeared from her campsite in the Masai Mara game reserve on September 7, 1988.

Homeowner Sets Home On Fire Trying To Kill Spider
The fire brigade had to be called to a house in Wales after a homeowner tried to kill a spider by setting it on fire. According to reports, the homeowner and a relative had tried to kill the spider by spraying it with an aerosol and then setting it on fire, resulting in the house catching alight.
