Welsh Govt Criticised Over Failed Kung-Fu Centre

£1.6m of Welsh public money was wasted on a scheme to turn a derelict hotel into the first Shaolin centre outside of China.

The Welsh government bought the derelict River Lodge hotel for £1.6m in 2007, intending to rent it the Powys Fadog community group, who wanted to turn it in a centre for kung fu.

Following the collapse of the deal two investigation have been carried out, one by the Wales Audit Office last year, and another by the Welsh Assembly’s public accounts committee.

According to the BBC, the accounts committee report found flaws in the civil service processes and highlighted an alleged conflict of interests for a government offical.

The Welsh government said it would carefully consider the report.
