Sales Fall At Tesco

UK sales at Tesco have fallen over the last three months, the supermarkets report shows.

The report shows that in the 13 weeks to 25 May 2013, like-for-like sales fell by 1%, but the supermarket added that they, “broadly maintained our performance from the fourth quarter of last year".

The retailer has also announced that it will undertake a programme of refurbishment across its stores, with almost 70 of its larger outlets being refitted.

Speaking about the recent horsemeat scandal, when traces of horsemeat where found in fours of its products, they said it had had a "small but discernable impact" on frozen and chilled convenience food sales but that sales in these categories had picked up in recent weeks.

The supermarket will also scale back on sales of consumer electronics, after non-food sales declined.
